Let Customers Pay with Amazon on a WooCommerce Store

There are many payment gateways you can use with WooCommerce. A lot of us, when we think of payment gateways, think PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.net, etc. But do you ever think of Amazon? Yes, I am talking Amazon Payments.

Since this was added as an option, I have have many people over the years ask me why they should use it. From the very beginning, it was pretty obvious to me.

It’s Easy. It’s Trusted. It’s Already There.

Think about that. Maybe someone lands on an online store. It’s a small store, and likely new to the visitor. Often the reluctance of purchasing from a new site is just that. It’s new. They don’t know it. On the about pages, it may have one of the friendliest faces on the planet, but there might be some hesitation on the customer’s part. Getting the first sale and building that trust, isn’t always easy.

The fact that they can use their Amazon account to purchase something on the site, well, that may change things. Chances are they do have an Amazon account. And it’s one less account they need to sign into and remember. In fact, they might even have a balance in their account, or even a Amazon gift card, so heck, that makes it even more painless. And the bottom line?

They trust Amazon.

The Amazon Payment Extension

Your client will need to open up an account over on Amazon Payments. And make sure they read through everything to understand the terms they must agree to when using this service. Next, snag this easy to use free extension over on WooCommerce.

Once you have installed the plugin, you will find it added to your list of payment gateways.

Once you have your account set up, the settings for the extension are straight-forward, including some display options for the button.

It’s always good to give your customers more options when it comes to ways to pay.

A Few Things You Should Know

  1. Your client will need an SSL certificate on your site, which should be obvious.
  2. The extension works for online stores based in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Hungary, Denmark, Japan and the US.
  3. You can use this for recurring payments with the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension.

Give it some thought and consider recommending it to your client.
